Abstract
It is wonderful way allows to restore now lost interest to solar plants.
Background
Seasonality, unpredictability, instability, low ratio of useful electricity to deployment area, illusory belief in Smart Grids really being a Big Folly in a case of large districts’ demand and supply, a cost problem to convert solar power in competitive artificial fuel because it needs electricity cheaper USD 0.01/kWh, and any other solar electricity storage is a big cost problem and so on, all those inherent all kinds solar plants as earlier stages as present one.
I suppose here to show a new look and a new way to feasible solar electricity cheaper than USD 0.0075/kWh and transformer’s energy efficiency about 70%, combining radio engineering techniques, microelectronics, common electronics and chemical engineering and many earlier results.
I suppose a solar power unit, consists of a planar square mirror of about 1.5 m2 served to redirect solar beams co-axially on a dish concentrator of about 1.0 m2 and being motionless, while a tiny and very simple and cheap motionless semiconductor sensor can control precisely focal spot to be motionless too with a help of two tiny servomotors. Being made of thin sheets the said mirrors are very cheap too, and totally such unit can be about USD 15.0, including steel pedestals following my very old invention and its evaluation.
At the said motionless focal spot there is a transformer of solar energy in electricity. The said transformer comprises a tilted thin steel sheet divided from a rectenna at a side towards the planar mirror, while another side of the steel sheet is toward to a second rectenna receiving a second half of thermal radiation of the steel sheet.
Totally it is a thermal heterodyne, recently invented and evaluated by me too (see Thermal heterodyne feasibility and evaluation, https://judbarovski.blogspot.com/2020/10 , posted on 10.10.2020).
Supposing the said rectenna to be in order of magnitude more expensive per area unit than PV solar cells, now being USD 0.2/watt, or about USD 200/m2, let the steel sheet be 900 C, or 120 kW/m2, or 1.0 m2/ 120 = 80 cm2, or 200 * 10 / 120= USD 17.0 /kW, or if 70% energy efficiency and summarized with the solar power unit of USD 15.0 kW (see above), it is totally 15/0.7 + 17 = 38.
If solar irradiation being 1600 kWh/m2 annually and 5 years payback, it is 8,000 kWh, so
38 / 8000 = USD 0.0048/ kWh electricity. It is a lion share of real cost, while the others are practically negligible. Let them be another 50% with big reserve, or totally USD 0.007/kWh. Q.E.D.
