How it works: It is a two-steps chemical process. (1) CH2(abbreviation of hydrocarbons) + H2O = CO + 2H2. dH = 167, dS = 245. (2) 2CO + 4H2 = C2H4 + 2H2O - exothermic reacton. Here 4H2 is circular, and so being practically free. Q (CO) = (14 * 52 + 167 * 1.1)/28 = $33.O/ton CO. Q (C2H4) = 2*28*33/28 = $66/ton C2H4. In the another case, 2CH4 = C2H4 + 2H2, dH = 2 * 75 - 53 = 97 kJ, dS = 219 + 262 - 2 * 186 = 129 J. Q (2C2H4) = (2 * 16 * 55 + 97 * 1.1) / 28 = $67 / ton C2H4. 2H2 is a by-product, can be used here in 0.5 CH4, circular + 0.5 CO2, so totally will be $47 /ton C2H4. References. Its energy effectiveness can be close to 100%, while it has very simple design, and its electricity is about 0.3 USA cents per kWh, because a lion share of the said cost is a share of a geared electric generator.
