About typical mistakes of ideas to collect
and even to sort the waste plastic

I can’t deny a desirability to extract the
waste plastic from nature and human living environment, even if being expensive
in reasonable limits. Moreover, it can be profitable business in some practical
cases.
But to collect and even to sort any waste plastic
at home before throwing, it is counterproductive and non-comfortable, and can
be even not healthy, especially if food plastic.
Much more reasonable the waste plastic to
be thrown jointly with other unsorted home garbage to municipal garbage container
for following garbage industrial treatment, e.g. for its gasification, and a
most economical and clean way can be high temperature catalytic water steam
reforming, and its high temperature heat as a by-product and its main product being
syngas (i.e. mix of hydrogen with carbon
monoxide) can be used for cheap electricity production and for chemical
industry and for many other industries, including wide spectra plastics
production and for artificial fuels synthesis..
For example, see Soyi Luo et al, “Syngas
production by catalytic gasification of municipal solid waste in fixed bed
reactor”,
They wrote: the highest H2 content (54,22%)
and gas yield ( 1.74Nm3/kg ) achieved at 900 C, S/C being 2.41 with NiO/y-Al2O3
as catalyst, including gasification of char and reforming of tar.
