Abstract.
Chain of improvements:
(1) Re energy by UScents 0.4 /kWh, 5 years payback and breeding investments for acceleration. [1], [2].[3]
(2) Reduction in size of the generators' units. Small size = "thin walls" drastically diminish ratio a cost of kWh.
(3) N2 is practically free, "share of NH3 burns oxygen out of the air" vs. conventional cryogenic monster. [4].
(4) H2 can be down to USD 150 /ton. [1].
0.5 N2 + 1.5 H2 = NH3 - 46 kJ, Haber-Bosch process. 46,000 * 0.3 (efficiency heat in electricity) * 0.03(tariffs) / 3.6 = USD 115/Mmol heat in electricity.
Q(NH3) * 17 = Q(1.5 H2) = 3 * 150 - 115 = 335, so Q(NH3) = 335 / 17 = USD 20 /ton NH3 vs. now prices being USD 650 -850 /ton NH3. If + 250% for Capex, NH3 would be USD 50 / ton.
Such cheap ammonia allows to synthetise oil and gas practically free. Really,
(a) CO2 + 2 NH3 = N2 + CH2 + 2 H2O. Oil would be about USD 2.5 / bbl.
(b) CO2 + 2.5 NH3 = 1.25 N2 + CH4 + 1.75 H20 + 0.125 O2. Gas would be about USD 12.5 /1000 m3.
